Picture of Bill Porter from FilmThe American Film Institute honors DOOR TO DOOR with a 2002 AFI Award! UCP congratulates TNT on its Original Film DOOR TO DOOR and applauds William H. Macy for his extraordinary performance as Bill Porter, which also garnered him a 2003 Golden Globe nomination, as well as a Screen Actors Guild award.

If you were lucky enough to catch the first airing of DOOR TO DOOR in July, you were in good company as this remarkable film topped all broadcast networks’ ratings. On July 14th, TNT ran the UCP “Dignity” public service announcement (PSA) during all three airings of that highly-watched television event.

William H. Macy brings to this role a sensitivity, insight and great passion and his character, Bill Porter, comes to life, for those not lucky enough to have met the real man. UCP is especially grateful to William H. Macy for his talents and his behind the scenes work on both the creative development and as the new UCP voice for both “Game” and “Taste”. Macy was an integral part of the Young & Rubicam and the UCP team. TNT aired the new UCP “Game” PSA twice on December 16th during the re-release of DOOR TO DOOR.

DOOR TO DOOR is now available in your local video stores in both DVD and VHS versions. The UCP “Dignity” spot is placed in the VHS version directly in front of the movie! UCP is proud to be tied to such a wonderful film. It’s certainly a movie we would recommend adding to your personal collection.

Yellow and Red TNT LogoUCP is exceptionally pleased to be associated with Turner Network Television (TNT) and the Original Film DOOR TO DOOR. This film demonstrates an individuals’ right to work, advocates for full citizenship of people with disabilities and honors the true essence of the Americans with Disabilities Act. DOOR TO DOOR is the embodiment of UCP—Understanding Disabilities, Creating Opportunities.

DOOR TO DOOR is based on the true story of a door-to-door salesman, Bill Porter, who was born with cerebral palsy. One might say Bill’s success as a door-to-door salesman began with UCP. Irene Porter, Bill’s mother, was an invaluable volunteer for UCP of Oregon throughout her lifetime. As a UCP fundraiser, people with cerebral palsy went door-to-door selling household items and earned a sales commission for their efforts. Irene Porter encouraged Bill to become a salesman for UCP, and after a few months, Bill became a top salesman for UCP of Oregon. Bill went on to have a successful 40-year career selling products for the Watkins Company. He not only became one of the company’s top salesmen, but also inspired his long-time customers with his incredible tenacity and dedication.
